Location & Moment

I filmed at Ransom Lake and the Little Chapel of the 35 Miracles of Jesus — a quiet space where faith, landscape, and local memory meet. The lake sits on the edge of the Southern High Plains, close to old travel corridors that once carried riders, wagons, and stories.

Frontier Context: Why “Ransom”?

The name Ransom recalls a difficult chapter of frontier life. In the 1800s, this broader region saw hostage negotiations connected to Comanche raids and the U.S./settler attempts to recover captives. Water sources and canyons nearby served as practical meeting grounds — places where conflict sometimes paused for exchange. The lake’s name is a reminder of that tension between worlds.

The Little Chapel of the 35 Miracles

This intimate exhibit presents scenes from the miracles of Jesus — a devotional walk-through in a small chapel overlooking the water. It’s a reflective counterpoint to the area’s harsher histories: a space dedicated to healing, faith, and quiet contemplation.

Access & Respect: Portions of Ransom Lake and surrounding property are private. I did not paint here to avoid transferring ownership rights to my artwork. Please respect posted signs and property boundaries when visiting.

Artist’s Reflection

At Ransom Lake, the past speaks in two voices — one of ransom and return, another of healing and faith. I filmed, I listened, and I kept my brush still — choosing respect over access, and memory over possession.
